Mariners 7, Brewers 5: the hangover after 22–0

The Desk · Aug 19, 2026

American Family Field · Milwaukee

Seattle punched back at American Family Field on Wednesday night. Milwaukee is still first in the Central. The box score just didn’t look like it.

The night after you score 22, you are supposed to look bored. Milwaukee did not. The Mariners scored four in the first, three in the second, and then both bullpens decided the rest of Wednesday was a walk-off waiting to happen that never arrived.

Final: Seattle 7, Brewers 5. Logan Gilbert against Dustin May. American Family Field. A 78–49 club that spent Tuesday rewriting the modern shutout record and Wednesday reminding everyone that August baseball will still reach into your chest.

The Desk is not flipping the table. You do not come off a 22–0 and a 7–5 in the same series and pretend the second night is the real team. You also do not pretend the first inning was a vibe. Milwaukee stranded chances, Seattle did not, and the sausage race still happened in the sixth like nothing in the National League was at stake.

Atlanta is next. Then the Mets on the road. The Crew is still the class of this division. Wednesday was the tax on Tuesday. Pay it, then get back to looking like the 22–0 version on Friday afternoon.
